The University of Minnesota Public Safety Emergency Communications Center (PSECC) is a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and security monitoring center that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are responsible for answering 911 and non-emergency calls for police, fire, and medical services for the Twin Cities’ campuses, as well as Police and Security dispatch services. We also monitor cameras and alarms, and support access control for the entire institution.

911 Dispatcher
Dispatchers are trained 911 professionals who handle emergency and non-emergency calls for service, dispatching police officers utilizing computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and the 800 MHz radio system, maintain Criminal Justice Information System records in compliance with NCIC standards, evaluate situations and respond quickly in emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of one year experience conducting public safety dispatching within the last 3 years to include experience working with advanced Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) systems; 800 MHz trunked radio systems; and 911 telecommunication systems.
- Perform multiple complex activities simultaneously and work with frequent interruptions. Ability to maintain composure and control under adverse conditions. Effectively listen, correctly comprehend, and respond clearly under a variety of conditions.
- Minimum typing speed of 35 words-per-minute; perform data-entry at minimum rate of 3500 keystrokes per hour.
Compensation
- Starting Pay: $30.18/hour ($62,774.40) Note: 2022 pay rate has not been finalized

Camera Operator
Operator
Camera Operators are responsible for 24/7 CCTV and access control monitoring, as well as review and retrieval of incident footage, facilities alarm monitoring and notifications, call-taking and dispatching of security units.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and one year of experience conducting dispatching, video monitoring, electronic surveillance, alarm management and response, emergency communications, access administration, or a related activity.
- Equivalent combinations of related college or vocational coursework may substitute for work experience.
- Equipment inspections require walking up and down flights of stairs.
- Occasional travel to work sites on-campus and other locations around the state required.
- All employment offers are conditioned upon the applicant passing a background check. Employees in this classification must be able to pass clearance to access Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS)
Compensation
