UPDATE (3/30/2021):

Last night, March 30, at approximately 11:00 p.m. UMPD officers, followed closely by MPD officers, responded to the 400 block of 13th Avenue SE on a report of shots fired.

UMPD officers located an adult male, not a UMN student, staff, or faculty member, who  was suffering from a gunshot wound. While lifesaving measures by the responding officers were performed, the individual was pronounced deceased.

Another adult male, who was also not a UMN student, staff, or faculty member, was located who had also suffered  a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance.

This is a MPD case (as it occurred in the City of Minneapolis) and MPD officers continue to investigate. The nature of the incident that resulted in both individuals being shot is not yet known and MPD reports no ongoing threat to the local community.

UMPD patrols this off-campus area and has assigned extra patrols in coordination with the MPD for the foreseeable future.
