The University of Minnesota annually collects and reports statistics to the US Department of Education and publishes an Annual Security and Fire Safety Report in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act. The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes information on safety and security related policies and procedures as well as crime statistics for the most recent three-year period for reported crimes which occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is prepared by the University of Minnesota Clery Compliance Coordinator in conjunction with the University of Minnesota Police Department, local law enforcement agencies, and a wide-range of individuals on campus who have been designated and trained as Campus Security Authorities.

FBI Uniform Crime Report
UMPD reports statistics to the FBI on an annual basis. The statistics are collected and categorized according to the UCR. The department most commonly uses these statistics. This allows the community to compare statistics between different parts of the Twin Cities.
