On Friday, September 1 at approximately 9:30 p.m. University of Minnesota Police received a report of a sexual assault near the area of Oak Street SE and Delaware Street SE.

The female student was walking on Delaware Street SE between Oak Street SE and Walnut Street SE when an unknown male suspect approached her. The male suspect began hugging and kissing the victim, and placed the victim's hands over his genital area. This was done over the suspect's clothing. The suspect left the location on foot.

The victim described the suspect as a male between 18 to 20 years old, approximately five feet six inches to five feet seven inches tall with a "skinny" build, light skin tone (possibly African American or Hispanic) and with a strong accent of unknown origin. The suspect had long dark curly hair (above shoulder length), brown eyes, and a beard and mustache longer than stubble length, also dark in color. He was wearing a long sleeve fur coat with neutral colors (tan, brown, white, black), with a button up light blue dress shirt (solid) underneath, and wearing long pants, possibly khaki in style.

University of Minnesota Police are investigating this case. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the University of Minnesota Police Department at 612-624-COPS (2677) and reference case number UM-17-333942.

The Department of Public Safety is required to issue Timely Notifications for crimes that meet the criteria under the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. This crime occurred on Campus and is being investigated by the University of Minnesota Police Department.
