Timely Warning-July 19, 2017
On Wednesday, July 19 at approximately 4:15 a.m., a University of Minnesota employee was the victim of a robbery. The crime occurred at the bus shelter near Jones Hall on Pleasant Street.
According to the police report, the victim was waiting for a bus when two suspects approached. One of the suspect threatened the victim with a knife and demanded valuables. The victim gave the suspects his property and was unharmed.
The victim describes the first suspect as a black male, approximately five feet seven inches tall, wearing eyeglasses and a hood over his head. The suspect had a black tongue ring. The second suspect is described as a black male, approximately five feet seven inches tall with short hair and wearing all black.
At approximately 4:30 a.m., a similar robbery was reported near the intersection of 8th Street SE and 10th Avenue SE. The victim, who is not affiliated with the University of Minnesota, reported being robbed by two suspects with a knife and provided suspect descriptions similar to the first incident. The victim gave up her valuables and was not injured. The suspects were last seen walking west on 8th Street.

The Department of Public Safety is required to issue Timely Notifications for crimes that meet the criteria under the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. The first crime described occurred on campus and is being investigated by the University of Minnesota Police Department. The second crime described occurred off campus and is being investigated by the Minneapolis Police Department.
