Timely Warning-March 25, 2017
On Friday, March 24 at approximately 10:05 p.m. the University of Minnesota Police Department responded to a robbery in progress call on the south side of Mechanical Engineering, located at 111 Church Street SE.
According to the police report, the victim who is a University student, was walking on the Scholars Walk next to Mechanical Engineering when he was assaulted by five to six males. The victim stated that the suspects followed him from the East Bank Light Rail platform on Washington Avenue. He described the suspects as African American males in their late teens, five feet six inches to five feet nine inches in height. The victim was kicked and punched several times in the head by the group. The primary assailant in the group was described as five feet, nine inches tall, medium build, wearing earrings, dark gray or navy blue jacket, jeans and brown "Timberland" style boots.
The robbery was interrupted by students coming out of the Mechanical Engineering Building. Responding officers were able to locate and arrest two of the suspects, who were identified by witnesses. The main assault/robbery suspect was not captured.
The victim was treated for minor injuries by ambulance and released at the scene.

The Department of Public Safety is required to issue Timely Notifications for crimes that meet the criteria under the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. This crime occurred on Campus and is being investigated by the University of Minnesota Police Department.
