Community Engagement Team

Community Engagement Team Group PhotoThe Community Engagement Team (CET) focuses on building positive relationships with the campus community. The team participates in engagement activities, foot beats and community events. The team is comprised of member who focus on proactive engagement, communicating safety messages and responding to campus concerns.

Each member of the team focuses on specific areas within the campus community. The officers are liaisons between the police department and the community. They work to establish a rapport with the campus community.

They are available to put on crime prevention and personal safety presentations for the University Community.

Lt. Jim Nystrom

Lt. Nystrom has been in Law Enforcement for nearly 30 years. When not at work, Jim loves to spend time with his family, volunteering for Special Olympics and escaping to the cabin.

Meet Officer Josh Betts, his picture is from this summer when he met two  motorcycle enthusiasts.

Officer Betts has been at UMPD since 1998. He is part of the UMPD Motor Unit and Crisis Intervention Team. In his free time, he enjoys sports and coffee.

Meet Officer Christopher Fonseca, his picture is from this year's National Asian Peace Officers Association Conference.

Officer Fonseca has been in Law Enforcement since 2007. He is a firearms instructor and a member of the National Latino Peace Officers Association.  He enjoys participating in the annual NERF Games held by the department each spring.

Officer Lange has been in Law Enforcement since 2013. She is an instructor for Fair and Impartial Policing and a Field Training Officer. She enjoys entertaining the coffee and donuts cliche on a regular basis.
