Message from the Chief

The University of Minnesota's Department of Public Safety (DPS) is committed to partnering with our campus community to ensure our students, faculty, staff and visitors are safe. DPS focuses on providing exceptional public safety services to our diverse campus community. We believe everyone deserves a safe and secure learning environment.

The Department of Public Safety has three departments dedicated to campus safety. The Public Safety Emergency Communications Center (PSECC) is a 911 dispatch and monitoring center. University Security is a uniformed security department that focuses on safety escorts and providing security services. The University of Minnesota Police Department is a state licensed police department.

Our department is dedicated to being responsive and connected with our campus community. We invite you to partner with our committed staff in accomplishing our public safety goals. As always, we encourage meaningful communication and feedback through our compliments and complaints link. Please learn more about DPS, our safety initiatives, crime information, and how to protect yourself by reviewing our website.

By working together, we create a safer environment for U.
